Lake District tragedy as runner dies after cardiac arrest in woods

A runner has tragically died after suffering a cardiac arrest in the Lake District.

North West Ambulance Service, Great North Air Ambulance Service, Cumbria Police and Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT) were called to Lingholm Woods near the shores of Derwentwater on Monday (April 22). KMRT said they were alerted shortly before midday and despite the best efforts of emergency services, the man could not be saved.

They said their 'thoughts and condolences are with the man’s family and friends'.

In a statement on Facebook this morning (April 24), a KMRT spokesperson said: "A runner suffered a cardiac arrest in Lingholm Woods near the shores of Derwentwater. Helimed58, ambulance service, police as well as Keswick MRT attended but despite best efforts the man could not be saved.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the man’s family and friends."

Commenting on the post, one person said: "Very sad. Thankyou to you all and especially the passers by who started cpr immediately and worked tirelessly to try and save him until the ambulance and helimed arrived."

Another wrote: "We were there with him, among many others, and I had desperately hoped to see better news. Thank you so much for what you did for him, you are wonderful people/."

Another commented: "A very sad call out and very hard on all of you trying to do your best. Condolences to the man's family and friends."
