Man drives into eye of Phoenix dust storm

Ever wondered what it’s like to, quite literally, enter the eye of a storm?

Wonder no more. A daring motorist plucked up the courage to drive through a massive dust storm in Phoenix, Arizona and - amazingly - he filmed the whole thing.

The eerie footage shows the fearless driver racing head-on into the epicenter of the storm, which engulfed the US city on Tuesday.

The motorist speeds down the highway, passing panicked traffic heading the opposite direction.

As the car enters the storm, the light slowly fades, first turning grey, then becoming pitch black. Eventually only car headlights are visible.

The storm was a ‘haboob’; an intense sandstorm found in especially arid regions around the world.

They occur regularly in Arizona during monsoon season - which runs from June to September – and are caused by draughts hitting loose sand, which blows up dust and creates a cloud of sediment.
