Man Accused Over Alleged Carjacking

A 44-year-old will appear in court later charged with robbery, two counts of kidnap and possession of a knife after an alleged carjacking in Birmingham.

Cedric Brown was arrested after a young mother's car was allegedly taken with her two toddlers still strapped in the back seats.

He will appear in custody at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.

Police say they were called to the Slade Road area of Erdington just before 11am on Tuesday following reports of a burglary in progress.

Three men were spotted running from a suspected getaway car and were chased by officers.

It is understood one of the men dragged a female driver out of a Ford Focus and sped away with her one-year-old son and two-year-old daughter in their child seats.

West Midlands Police Sergeant Nicholas Barnes said neither of the toddlers had been hurt.

"We quickly reunited them with their mum who naturally was extremely relieved," he added.

Two other men, a 19-year-old from Perry Common and an 18-year-old from Bromford, who were also arrested have been released on police bail.
