Red Cross Worker Abducted In Pakistan

A British Red Cross worker has been abducted in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta.

Khalil Rasjed Dale was taken from a clearly marked Red Cross vehicle and bundled into a car before being driven off, police officer Nazir Ahmed Kurd said.

While one report said he was seized on his way home, police said Mr Dale was taken just yards away from his Quetta office.

The International Committee of the Red Cross ' office is in a high security neighbourhood near offices of other international organisations.

In a statement, Red Cross spokeswoman Sitara Jabeen called for a "rapid and unconditional release" of Mr Dale.

She said the charity currently has no idea of the identities of the abductors, or what their motives are.

Despite the abduction, the charity insists it will continue its humanitarian work in Pakistan.
