Seven Horses Killed In Railway Collision

At least seven horses have been killed after running loose on rail tracks.

The horses died in a collision on the Fen Road level crossing in Milton, Cambridgeshire, on Wednesday.

The 5.01pm Stansted to Birmingham service collided with the animals about 5.15pm.

Another train, travelling from Birmingham to Stansted, was also involved.

A female passenger was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the incident caused major travel disruption.

"We are very keen to find out who the horses belong to," said Sergeant David Barker of the British Transport Police.

"At the moment it is not clear how many horses died in the incident, however, we believe that at least seven were killed.

"I also want to know how the horses came to be on the tracks.

"If anyone has any information, which they think that could help us in our investigations please get in touch."

The breeds of the horses, which are believed to have come from the fields nearby, are unknown.

Witnesses should contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
