Former Caddie Makes Tiger Woods Racial Slur

Caddie Steve Williams has made a stunning racist outburst against his former employer Tiger Woods.

Williams made the derogatory remark during an awards dinner in Shanghai which was attended by golfers and fellow caddies.

The New Zealander was on stage accepting an award for the best celebration of the year.

It was given for his elaborate performance when his new boss, Australian golfer Adam Scott, won the Bridgestone Invitational tournament in August.

Williams had been sacked by Woods in July after a 12-year partnership ended acrimoniously.

When asked on-stage to explain his victory celebration, he replied: "It was my aim to shove it right up that black a*******."

Williams later issued an apology on his website, saying: "I apologise for comments I made at the Annual Caddy Awards dinner in Shanghai. Players and caddies look forward to this evening all year and the spirit is always joking and fun.

"I now realise how my comments could be construed as racist. However I assure you that was not my intent. I sincerely apologise to Tiger and anyone else I have offended."

Adam Scott must now decide whether to keep Williams as his caddie.

Scott said the slur was taken out of context and the comments at the private party were not meant to leave the room. He said Williams' apology should be accepted.

Northern Irish golfer Graeme McDowell was also at the awards dinner when the comments were made.

He said: "These are racially sensitive times, especially in sport. It's unfortunate because it was a very sticky situation.

"Should he be sacked? I don't know (...) I think he was trying to be funny and make a joke of it."
