Time-lapse video: 30-storey hotel built in just 15 days

A Chinese company has released a time-lapse video of its construction of a 30-storey mega hotel in just 15 days.

Released by the Asian sustainable building firm Broad Group, the video shows the impressive infrastructure being constructed within a 360-hour time frame in the China’s south central Hunan Province.

Using cutting-edge building technology, which uses six times less cement and is believed to be five times more energy efficient than regular construction material, the 17,000-metre-squared earthquake-proof skyscraper was completed at the end of 2011.

The Ark hotel was built using pre-fabricated modules and uses a diagonal steel bracing.

The remarkable building also boasts a filtration system with air 20 times purer inside than outside and can withstand a 9.0-magnitude earthquake, as tested by the China Academy of Building Research.

In 2010, the same firm built a 16-storey residential block in only five days.

And it’s not just the hotel that was built in the 15 days, but all the furniture has apparently been moved into the building, so it’s ready for guests.

Good for them. It would take most local councils in England 360 hours just to put up the traffic lights for a minor road repair.

my local chinese still takes 25mins for my order, so their not all good.

May be they don't want to be closed down for giving customers food poisoning, i.e. undercooked food.

360 hours is the time needed to complete the application form for planning permission in the uk ,

Good job it wasn't in the UK, we would still be paying consultants over the odds with nothing to show for the millions spent..

And the H&E faffing around !!!! slowing the job down....
      • chritopher 4 months ago
We would have spent £10 billion then given up.

Too many bureaucrat a**holes in this country, slowing everything down, and charging extortionate fees for "paperwork". The UK culture has stopped being about working for a living, but ripping others off for a living whenever you can. Not as bad as the USA, where they sue each other for sneezing on the public transport or something even worse. Everyone wants something for nothing, that's ok. What's not ok is most people now EXPECT something for nothing.

This has many implications and uses... just imagine being able to put up entire airports in as little as say 3-4 weeks (allowing for in situ concrete to dry).

How long would it take us to build a public toilet?
Planning and discussion - two years
Further dicking around - one year
      Site preparation - one year
      Decison making - three years
More dicking around - two years
      Construction - one year
Grand opening - followed by closure - one hour
Find a competent builder to replace shoddy building work - one year
      And thats just an estimate.

No, but it's quite funny, and not far from the truth
      • chritopher 4 months ago
And don't forget the cost... £27.5 million, funded by pfi with APR to the tax payer of 1300%, total repayable for one public toilet £25 billion.

Puts the UK to shame. China is blasting past while the rest of the World watches with it's jaw open.

This will collapse soon, haven't you seen all the other buildings and railway bridges that collapse within months of opening?

It would have taken the local council in the UK at least four times as long as that just to acknowledge receipt of the planning application.

In Britain it would take longer than that to pick a committee to decide where the bloody thing was going to be built.
    • sp Blakeny  •  Birmingham, England  •  4 months ago
In the UK the Council Planners would have held the job up for a few months then the Health & Saftey mob would move in and hold it up for a few months then when work started one of the crackpot union bosses would have called a strike because the tea was hot enough and about 2 years later when the company who were building it had gone bust it would be completed and left empty for 10 years.

We Indians will take 15 years for a similar construction after forming two or three trade unions.

An Italian, a Scotsman, and a Chinese fellow were hired at a construction site. The foreman pointed out a huge pile of sand and told the Italian guy, "You're in charge of sweeping." To the Scotsman he said, "You're in charge of shoveling." And to the Chinese guy, "You're in charge of supplies."
He then said, "Now, I have to leave for a little while. I expect you guys to make a dent in that there pile."
The foreman went away for a of couple hours, and, when he returned, the pile of sand was untouched. He asked the Italian, "Why didn't you sweep any of it?" The Italian replied, "I no hava no broom. You said to the Chinese fella that he a wasa in a charge of supplies, but he hasa disappeared and I no coulda finda him nowhere." Then the foreman turned to the Scotsman and said, "And you, I thought I told you to shovel this pile."
The Scotsman replied, "Aye, ye did lad, boot ah couldnay get meself a shoovel! Ye left th' Chinese gadgie in chairge of supplies, boot ah couldnay fin' him either." The foreman was really angry by now and stormed off toward the pile of sand to look for the Chinese guy.

Just then, the Chinese guy jumped out from behind the pile of sand and yelled...

      "SUPPLIES!!"
