Video: Policeman clings on to runaway bus for 1km to bag driver

A determined police officer held on to the windscreen wipers of a runaway bus for more than a kilometre after he spotted the driver encroaching on the wrong side of the road.

Lieutenant Nguyen Manh Phan had pulled over bus driver Phung Hong Phuong, in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Initially agreeing to step out of the vehicle, Phuong, 37, refused to produce his paperwork and jumped back on the 39-seater bus to flee the scene, according to VnExpress.

The officer tried to stop Phuong by barking instructions through the windscreen of the bus, but Phuong sped off.

Lt Phan was left with no choice other than to hang on for dear life, which, as the video shows, he did with aplomb.

The officer’s ordeal ended when the driver eventually pulled over after realising that more cops were hot on his tail.

The bus driver, who reportedly went on to confess he had previously served a four-year prison term for running over and killing a person, was promptly arrested. He faces a charge of “acting against public officials”.
