Video Emerges Of Girl Fight 'Started By Mum'

A mother has been arrested after video emerged of her allegedly starting a brawl between two schoolgirls before attacking another student who tried to intervene.

It is alleged Daphne Melin set up a fight between her 12-year-old daughter and another girl outside their school in Shirley, New York.

Police said Ms Melin's daughter did not want to participate so a friend stood in for the fight, which was filmed and put online.

The clip shows the girls fighting in front of a crowd of students while onlookers cheer them on.

Officers said that when another student remonstrated with the 32-year-old for encouraging the confrontation, the mother shoved her to the ground and kicked her in the head and neck.

The video shows an adult grabbing a child before delivering a series of knee strikes to the girl's head.

The disbelief of onlookers can be heard. As the adult attacks the student, one shouts: "Are you serious?"

Ms Melin, however, claims her daughter has been a victim of cyberbullying and was only taking matters into her own hands after the school said they were unable to help.

She told the New York Post: "I have documentation to prove that these girls started harassing my daughter, and it's been going on for weeks."

Police have charged Ms Melin with three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and with attempted assault.

She has been released on bail until December 1.
