Crowds gathered in celebration outside London’s St. Mary’s Hospital, where the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a boy at 16.24 London time.
Euronews correspondent James Franey reported from amid the jubilant throng: “As the news of the royal baby’s arrival filtered down, the crowd behind me erupted in celebration. William and Catherine’s son is the third in line to the British throne and he will take the title His Royal Highness, the Prince of Cambridge.”
Britain’s prime minister was among the first to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their son, saying: “It is an important moment in the life of our nation.”
“It’s been a remarkable few years for our Royal family – a royal wedding that captured people’s hearts, that extraordinary magnificent Jubilee and now this royal birth. All from a family that has given this nation so much incredible service,” David Cameron continued.
Crowds of well-wishers gathered outside Buckingham Palace and across London to celebrate the birth of the new prince.
