A woman has died following a crash on the M11 this morning (April 28). It happened around Newport, near junction 8 just before 6am and involved a single vehicle.

Emergency services attended and the road was quickly closed. Despite best efforts of paramedics on the scene, a woman in her 40s sadly died at the scene. Her family have since been made aware.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and remains in custody.

The northbound carriageway has since been re-opened but the southbound remains closed to allow for the recovery of the vehicle involved. Essex Police has thanked road users for their patience.

Essex Police are now appealing for witnesses. Detectives from Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate the circumstances around this collision.
