Civic chiefs have unveiled a £1.2m plan to repair a damaged seawall at Stokes Bay, Gosport, and protect the area from flooding.

A 135m section of wall and promenade was battered by Storm Eunice more than two years ago and is still fenced off.

Funding for the scheme has been secured, including £450,000 from the borough council.

Under plans drawn up by the authority, the wall and promenade will be replaced to protect Stokes Bay Road and its neighbouring infrastructure. A car park and amenity area will be reinstated.

Council leader Peter Chegwyn said: "The seawall was built back in the 1970s and despite our regular maintenance and investment, it's failed several times over recent years in bad weather.

"It's crucial we protect our beautiful coastal areas so people can enjoy them now and into the future."

The scheme is outlined in a public notice published by the council, which hopes to complete the work before next winter.
