£1.79 Home Bargains buy loved by Mrs Hinch cleared annoying moss from my garden in such a simple way

After a long, damp winter most paths and driveways have a build-up of moss on them which, as well as being unsightly, can also get a bit slippery.

Tailor-made treatments can be costly though - and often include some harsh chemicals. But there is a cheap and effective way of getting rid of it, using a more natural method.

After hearing that soda crystals do the job just as well, I bought a 1kg bag of them from Home Bargains for just £1.79.

Loved by cleaning queen Mrs Hinch, they can be used for all kinds of jobs, from cleaning ovens and freshening washing machines to unblocking drains.

When it comes to path clearing, you just need to sprinkle them on the affected area, making sure it's a little bit damp so the stuff sticks, particularly if it's a windy day.

All you do then is leave them to soak in for two or more days until it's all gone brown and then use a stiff brush to remove it.

I could see mine had all gone brown after just 24 hours and was able to get rid of most of it after just a day. Some of the bits needed a good scrub with the brush to shift them, but I'm sure that wouldn't have been the case had I been a bit more patient and waited an extra day.

One bag hasn't done my whole drive as it's quite big, so I'll be getting another one to clear the rest of it. And next time I'll leave it a good 48 hours before taking the brush to it.

At £1.79 a bag though it's hardly breaking the bank and is a much cheaper alternative to other treatments out there.

Just be aware that soda crystals can be harmful to pets if ingested, so keep them away from the crystals while they work their magic.
