Gasps could be heard in the ITV studio on The 1% Club as a whopping 32 competitors were knocked out in a single question during the episode on Saturday, May 18. Hosted by Lee Mack, each episode of the quiz show sees 100 people solve riddles and word puzzles during an set time in an effort to scoop up a possible £100,000 prize pot.

Whilst typically a few people are eliminated at the end of each round for getting the question wrong, it was highly unusual to have so many people answer the same question incorrectly and get knocked out together. As the time limit ran out and the answer was shared, Lee said: "Wow. That is massive. 32 people went out on that one!"

The question that so many people had struggled with was: Which of these would it be impossible to do? (A) Marry your cousin's cousin (B) Marry your brother's widow (C) Marry your widow's sister. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter

As Lee explained, the answer is C because "you would not be able to marry your widow's sister as you would already be dead". He joked: "Before we get any complaints - I accept that is a bit zombie-ist."

Asked what option he chose to get the answer wrong, contestant Jamil said: "I put B," and Lee explained: "Yes, your brother's widow - she's still alive but your brother has died. This isn't me breaking any news, I'm just telling you the answer to the question!"

Asking what went wrong, fellow contestant Kate said: "I still thought I was right for a really long time, even after you told us the right answer."

"You sound just like my wife!" said Lee," What did you put?" "B," Kate said. "That's very frustrating," responded Lee.

Over on social media, viewers were gobsmacked by the high number of contestants out in one go.

Sharing a meme of a shocked cat with the caption 'WTF', one viewer said: "How did 32 people get that wrong! #The1PercentClub," whilst another said: "Flipping heck 32 out!" and a third viewer said: "A total massacre in that question."

"32 out on that question. Must be a record. #The1PercentClub," said another. "WTAF?? 32 out! #The1PercentClub" said another.
