Two men killed, one critically injured in shooting in South Chicago, police say

Two men were killed and a third man critically injured early Saturday shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood, according to police.

Authorities said the two of the victims, both 42, were standing outside in the 2500 block of East 83rd Street shortly before 2 a.m. when they were struck by gunshots.

One of the men was struck in the neck and later pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The second victim suffered two wounds to the chest, and was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

A third victim shot in the same incident was discovered several blocks east of the shooting scene in the 8300 block of South Colfax Avenue, where he was later pronounced, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Quintrel M. Jemison, 36, of South Chicago.

An identity for the second victim wasn’t made public late Saturday. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
