The New #1 Show on Netflix Is an Adaptation of a Popular Video Game and Film Series

We're always hunting for the best new shows to watch, and one of the easiest places to look is Netflix's list of their most-watched titles. And while Stranger Things has been dominating for weeks, alongside other hits like the reality survival show Alone and returning favorites like The Umbrella Academy, there's a new show that's taken the top spot. Resident Evilwhich is adapted from the video game of the same name and the popular film series that was released in the early 2000s—is now the #1 show on the streaming site's list of most-watched series (oh, and did we mention it only came out three days ago?)

The show stars Ella Balinska and Adeline Rudolph as Jade and Billie Wesker, twin sisters who end up in a planned community when their father is promoted within the Umbrella Corporation (a corrupt pharmaceutical company that we've seen in past iterations of Resident Evil). The story jumps between 2022, where we see the twins as young girls, and 2036, where a ravaging T-virus has reduced the world's population to only 300 million.

“They said the world would end in 2036,” Balinska says in the trailer above. “But they were wrong. The world ended a long time ago.”

As we see in the clip, this mysterious T-virus turns humans into monsters, and during the segments of the show that take place in 2036, the world has become inhabited by these dangerous creatures (think The Walking Dead but even scarier).

Alongside Balinska and Rudolph, Resident Evil also stars Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Paola Núñez, Lance Reddick, Turlough Convery, Connor Gosatti, Ahad Raza Mir, and Pedro de Tavira Egurrola.

We can't wait to stream.
