A Teesside bar has undergone a huge transformation to turn it into a Middlesbrough-themed sports bar.

Adam Hampton has spent almost £100,000 turning former premises The Lobby into the new Boro Bar in Albert Road. And, just a week after opening it is already proving popular. Adam, who also owns Sapphires and Club XS is delighted with the new bar which is hoping will attract sports lovers and entertainment seekers alike.

He said they wanted to create a sports bar and celebrate all things Middlesbrough so have ploughed money into getting the venue looking just right and after signing up to Sky they will be showing all the major sporting events across the summer.

Adam said the aim is to have a grill, sports and live music venue. Downstairs there are several large screens which will show football games and other sports, and upstairs there are pool tables, dart boards and a large projector again for live games.

Boro Bar will also be serving up a range of tasty Teesside-themed dishes, including the Transporter Burger, The Boro Burger and The Smoggie, which is a hot dog. And, Adam said no Teesside menu would be complete without the Parmo. They will also be serving Sunday Lunch.

Adam said: "We called it the Boro Bar just because there is not really a sports bar in Middlesbrough and we wanted to create a sports place with a community vibe."

To add to the decorations inside the premises The Boro Bar has had a Teesside-themed mural hand painted by Drew’s Wonderwalls onto one of the main walls.

Adam said: "What we are trying to create is a sports bar during the day and then on a night stop serving food and be more of an entertainment venue." He said there will be quizzes and other events during the week and hopefully a live entertainer every weekend followed by a disco.
