The 13 Cambridge roads where most drivers have been hit with speeding fines
More than 30,000 speeding fines have been issued on 13 roads in Cambridge since the start of 2019. Of the 31,408 speeding fines issued across the city in that time, 30,264 have been issued to drivers speeding on just 13 roads, according to data from a Freedom of Information request.
The number of speeding fines issues peaked in 2020, with 8,529 fines issued across the city, while 2023 saw a five-year low of 3,947 fines issued. The figures include speeding offences captured by fixed cameras and police officers.
The road where the greatest number of drivers have been caught speeding is the southbound side of Elizabeth Way, where 13,021 drivers have been caught speeding – that's 42.5 per cent of all speeding fines issued across the city. By contrast, the northbound side has seen just 235 speeding fines issued.

Other hotspots where large numbers of drivers have been caught speeding are Barnwell Road (3,960 fines issued), Milton Road, (2,967 fines issued), and Victoria Avenue (2,519 fines issued).

The majority of fines (26,061 or 83 per cent) were issued to drivers travelling up to 10 miles per hour faster than the speed limit. A total of 717 fines were issued to drivers travelling at 50mph or more in a 30mph or 40mph zone.
Two fines were issued to drivers travelling at 106mph in a 30mph zone on Barnwell Road – one in 2020 and one in 2022. Two fines were issued to drivers on Histon Road travelling at speeds of more than 90mph in a 30mph zone.
