13-Month-Old Giraffe Welcomed at Oakland Zoo

Oakland Zoo has asked the public for help naming the newest member of its giraffe herd, a 13-month-old male from Louisiana that arrived at the zoo on Tuesday, May 7.

The zoo said it was “thrilled” to welcome the new 10-foot-tall giraffe, which arrived in Oakland in a “specially designed trailer” from Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans.

The zoo gave the public three name options to vote on: Enzi, which means “powerful,” Nuru, which means “the light," and Kovu, which means “scar.” Credit: Oakland Zoo via Storyful
