The utterly strange world of professional darts has had plenty of unexpected characters rise its rank over the years: a man dressed as “The Grinch” was once the reigning world champion, another competitor came escorted to the stage by stormtroopers and another legendary thrower, simply known as “The Muffin Man,” was beloved by fans for tossing out pre-packaged muffins to the crowd before every match.

But no one has taken over the sport with such surprise like 16-year-old Luke Littler has in recent weeks.

The XBox playing, daily pizza eating teenager who is on the brink of winning the World Darts Championships on Wednesday after entering the tournament last month unranked and relatively unknown.

“I was happy winning one game but I could go all the way,” Littler, the youngest player to ever reach the World Darts Championship final, told the Associated Press this week. “My target was to still be here after Christmas and now here I am in the final.”

The English teenager defeated former world champion Rob Cross to reach the final this week. Michael van Gerwen was the youngest player to ever win the tournament in 2014 at the age of 24, according to CNBC.

"It is crazy to even think I am in the final on my debut," Littler said after the match, according to the BBC.

The 16-year-old’s run has been miraculous by any measure, entering the tournament ranked 164th in the world. He could win £500,000 (the equivalent of about $630,000 USD) if he completes the Cinderella story with a championship win on Wednesday night over Luke Humphries — the World No. 1-ranked player who goes by the nickname “Cool Hand Luke.”

But if Humphries has the cool hand, Littler has the cool head.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s finals, the eternally chill teenager told Sky Sports he’s not planning to shake up his routine, which primarily includes snacking.

"I'll be doing what I've been doing,” Littler told the network, according to BBC. “In the morning, I'll go for my ham and cheese omelet and then come here, have a pizza and then prep on the board. That is what I've done every day."

Even Humphries recognizes Littler’s poise, despite his age.

"I've seen the way he's played many, many times but when you come on this stage it can be a lot tougher but he's just proved that he's got a lot of bottle,” the challenger said, according to Yahoo! Sport. "Nothing is going to faze him. I'm probably going to have to play the game of my life.”

The World Darts Championship’s final round will take place Wednesday at Alexandra Palace in London, airing live on Sky Sports at 2:30 p.m. ET.
