Fans of Netflix’s 1899 have signed a petition to save the show after the streaming giant unexpectedly axed the sci-fi fantasy after just one season.

The show, which stars Emily Beecham and Aneurin Barnard, was axed earlier this week – with confirmation of its future coming via showrunners Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese.

It debuted on the platform in November 2022 and follows a group of European emigrants travelling on a steamship from Southampton to New York when things take a mysterious turn.

Now, fans have launched a Change.org campaign in a bid to get the show back on the streaming platform for a second season.

“1899 was clearly created with multiple seasons in mind,” the description states.

“After the first season, there are a lot of unanswered questions and a big cliffhanger at the end of the last episode. We want a renewal of the show and a proper end to the story.”

Backing the petition, which has now been signed by 15,000 people, one fan wrote: “I have been waiting for years for this show and I can’t believe they’re ending it. They left on a massive cliffhanger and that’s not right. Bo and Jante deserve better.”

Another said: “I will boycott Netflix if they keep canceling great shows. First it was the Dark Crystal show now 1899? Wtf is wrong with the people at Netflix?”

Confirming the cancellation, Friese and bo Odar previously said: “With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned.

“That’s life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were a part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget.”
