1 dead, 1 injured in apparent random shooting at Austin business: Police

A woman was killed and another seriously injured in an apparently random shooting at a business in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, police said.

The suspect shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The incident occurred in a business at the Arboretum Shopping Center, an outdoor mall in north Austin, police said.

Around 5 p.m., a 911 caller reported hearing shots fired inside the Teapioca Lounge, and multiple calls to 911 reported an active shooter, police said.

Responding officers found three people with gunshot wounds inside the business, police said.

Two people, including the suspect shooter, were pronounced dead at the scene, interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson confirmed during a Thursday evening presser.

Austin Police identified the deceased victim on Friday as 64-year-old Laura Jauregui.

The suspected shooter was identified by police as Tang-Kang Dave Chiang, 38.

A second unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital with "serious injuries," police said.

"During the investigation, it was determined that Chiang shot both women unknown to him, killing Jauregui, before killing himself with a firearm," police said in a statement.

A motive remains under investigation.

Two adults were evaluated for minor injuries following the incident, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.
