By now, most people have bought an air fryer and if not, they've at least thought about it. Not only are they easy to use but they are quick and cost less to run than an oven.

But they're notoriously difficult to clean. In all other departments, air fryers are known for their ease, with simple recipes to follow and the ability to cook a whole meal at once.

There is one way to get your air fryer basket back to sparkling clean in no time, and it only involves two simple ingredients: bicarbonate of soda and washing up liquid.

After you have cooked in your appliance, sprinkle a few heaps of bicarbonate of soda on the tray. On top of this, squirt some washing-up liquid in the drawer.

Then, fill your air fryer basket with boiling water and let it soak for half an hour. This gets all the grub from the bottom and when 30 minutes is up the water will most likely have turned into a pale brown colour.

Pour out all the residue and then give the tray a light scrub with a non-scratch sponge. Finally, rinse away all the leftover grime.

It is recommended to do this every few weeks to keep your air fryer in good condition. One of the newest air fryers available that is "an absolute game changer" is the Ninja Double Stack XL Air Fryer that is big enough to cook food in four layers and has two drawers large enough to cook an entire chicken in each.

And if you need inspiration on what to cook, the Complete Air Fryer Cookbook: 140 super-easy, everyday recipes and techniques, is just £10 on Amazon.
