2 People, Dog Escape Boat Fire on Mississippi Reservoir

Two people and their dog escaped a boat fire by leaping into the Ross Barnett Reservoir near Jackson, Mississippi, on Wednesday, April 17, according to local reports.

According to the Darkhorse Press, the Reservoir Fire Department said the vessel had just had repairs done when the boaters took it out on the water. On their way back to shore, the boaters heard several backfire sounds and saw smoke billowing from the boat, prompting them to bail out with their dog, the report said.

Other boaters came to their aid, including one who towed the burning boat to a landing on the reservoir’s south shore, where firefighters extinguished the blaze, WAPT reported. Credit: Cindy Britton via Storyful
