2024 Emmys Predictions For Every Category
Variety‘s Awards Circuit is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year. It features the official predictions for the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, and Tony Awards, curated by Variety senior awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday.

2024 Emmy Predictions: All Categories
Weekly Commentary (Updated May 16, 2024): FX’s “Shōgun” is officially in the drama race for the Primetime Emmys.
FX has confirmed that the once limited or anthology series heavyweight has been officially submitted and accepted in the drama categories, where it will compete against Netflix’s “The Crown,” Apple’s “The Morning Show” and Prime Video’s “Fallout.” In addition, the network has shared exclusively with Variety the complete list of 40 Emmy submissions, which includes six submissions for directing, four for writing, and two eligible guest actors. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” currently holds the record for most nominations in a single year with 32. Could FX break the monumental record?
There’s also been multiple shake-ups in the talk series and scripted variety races.
The spicy chicken wing interview series “Hot Ones,” hosted by Sean Evans, has successfully petitioned to be included in the outstanding talk series category. On the other hand, once vying for a spot in scripted variety, Netflix’s “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA” has also been moved to compete in the talk series race. Both shows will face late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, and Seth Meyers.
There are 46 total categories currently being predicted. This week, there are new additions for short-form (comedy, drama) and performers in a short-form series.
The eligibility deadline for all series concluding their runs is May 31. The nominations-voting-round is open from June 13 to June 24.
Top 3 nomination leaders for series: “The Bear” (23); “Shōgun” (15); “The Crown” (13)
Top 3 nomination leaders for networks: Netflix (53); FX (49); Max (38)
Upcoming For Your Consideration (FYC) events: “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” and “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story” (May 16); “The Crown,” “Platonic,” “Physical,” “Pepito’s America Mamadas” and “Top Chef” (May 17); “Based on a True Story,” “No One Will Save You,” “A Gentleman in Moscow” and “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” (May 18)
Note: Not all category and genre placements have yet to be confirmed and are subject to change.

About the Primetime Emmy Awards
The Primetime Emmy Awards, commonly known as the Emmys, are awarded by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). Established in 1949, these celebrate outstanding achievements in American primetime television. The Emmys are categorized into three divisions: the Primetime Emmy Awards for performance and production excellence; the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, recognizing achievements in artistry and craftsmanship; and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards, which honor significant engineering and technological advancements. The eligibility period typically extends from June 1 to May 31 each year. The Television Academy hosts the Emmys and has over 20,000 members across 30 professional peer groups, including performers, directors, producers, art directors, artisans and executives.
