Yahoo News 2024 Fiat 500e (RED) Edition Revealed, and It's Bound for America
Fiat is bringing an electric version of the 500 to America, and it announced that the first models will be this (RED) special edition.
This marks the first time we've seen the U.S.-spec 500e, and more details will be revealed next week.
The first U.S. models will go on sale in the first quarter of 2024.
UPDATE 12/5/23: The 2024 Fiat 500e has been officially revealed, and it confirms much of what we expected. Its standard electric powertrain sends 118 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. Its small 42.0-kWh battery pack provides an EPA-estimated 149 miles of range. Charging a fully depleted battery to 80 percent is said to take 35 minutes when connected to a DC fast-charger. The first examples are set to hit U.S. streets early next year, and each of the (RED) special editions will have a base price of $34,095. Among its standout standard features are 17-inch “diamond-cut” wheels, a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, full LED front lighting, lane-keeping assist, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a wireless charging pad.
It's been a while since Fiat first announced that the iconic 500 would return to America, but we now have a bit more information on the 2024 Fiat 500e that's set to go on sale on our shores. Fiat confirmed that the first units coming here will be this (RED) special-edition model, and said that these will be available to order for those who sign up for the FiatPass digital collectible online. There's a full reveal scheduled for December 5, so we should find out a lot more next week.
This marks the first time we've seen the U.S.-spec 500e, as evidenced by the amber reflector lights on the front fender. The (RED) edition is finished in a bright red exterior paint, naturally, and has nice-looking black 24-spoke wheels. A low-res picture of the interior shows that the color theme continues there, too, with a red trim piece extending from the gauge cluster across the dashboard.
We expect the 500e to start at around $34,000, although Fiat hasn't yet confirmed pricing. It should have the same powertrain that's offered in Europe, which consists of a front-mounted electric motor with 117 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The U.S. version will likely come with the larger of the car's two available battery packs, which could provide around 150 miles of range.
Check back December 5 for the 500e's official U.S. reveal, where we'll likely find out lots more. It's scheduled to arrive in America in the first quarter of 2024, and there should be other models available eventually. This initial run of (RED) special editions are part of a charity tie-in supporting Product Red, which raises money to fund HIV and AIDS research.
