’28 Days Later’ Sequel ’28 Years Later’ Shopped As Trilogy

Deadline has confirmed that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reuniting for 28 Years Later, a new thriller based off the 2002 film about a rage virus that overtakes civilization.

Potential buyers are being approached by WME, which reps Boyle and Garland. The package is a new trilogy based on the world established in the 2002 original (28 Days Later) and its 2007 sequel (28 Weeks Later).

Boyle is attached to direct the first installment. Garland would write all three. The budget for each movie would be in the $75 million range. Both will produce along with original producer Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice, the former head of Fox Searchlight Pictures. The latter is a division of former studio Twentieth Century Fox, which originally backed the films.
