3 Dead, 1 Injured After Explosion at Ohio Auto Shop: 'It Was Pandemonium'

Three people were killed and another was injured in an explosion at an Ohio auto body shop on Tuesday.

Authorities said the blast occurred at Jimbo’s Auto Shop in Hillsboro around 4 p.m. local time, according to NBC affiliate WLWT and CBS affiliate WKRC-TV. A fire erupted at the site immediately afterward.

Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire Chief David Manning said three people died as a result of the explosion, per WLWT and USA Today. Their identities have not been publicly released.

The individual injured in the blast was hospitalized Tuesday night in stable condition, he added.

Officials did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Tuesday’s explosion reportedly could be felt from blocks away. The local fire chief said the explosion was even felt at the firehouse, which is about five blocks away from the auto body shop, according to USA Today.

Clint Moore said he was nearly knocked off his backloader when the explosion occurred nearby, reported ABC affiliate WCPO-TV.

"Everyone was scrambling around the building, cars were burning up, it was pandemonium," Moore told the outlet. "It was a real war zone. It was unreal."

Crews worked for hours at the scene, which wasn’t cleared until after midnight, according to USA Today.

Eight different fire departments responded to the scene to help knock down and contain the fire that followed the explosion, according to WLWT.

"It's really amazing the community support that comes out," Manning said, per USA Today.

In a Facebook post, officials thanked everyone who came out to help following the blast, including various agencies, members of the community and local businesses. “Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated,” they added.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, per the reports.
