4,000 unsafe items set for eBay seized by Suffolk Trading Standards

Thousands of unsafe items set to be sold on eBay have been seized by Suffolk Trading Standards.

The consignment was due to be delivered to a fulfilment centre in Rugby, Warwickshire.

Among the faulty items were household objects such as air fryers, ceiling lamps and LED ceiling lights.

The largest amount of items seized was 1,400 electric fly killers which posed a risk of electric shock, fire and injury.

Other risks posed by the unsafe items were overhearing, explosion and loss of control.

A spokesman for Suffolk Trading Standards said the goods were imported from China and due to be sold on eBay.

The listings have been removed from the site and the goods will be destroyed.

"Importers are responsible for ensuring that all the products imported comply with UK product safety legislation. It is a criminal offence to supply an unsafe or non-compliant product," continued the authority.

Anyone who has purchased a product and thinks it may be unsafe should stop using it immediately and report it to Trading Standards on 0808 223 1133.
