4 of the best celebrity looks at the Billboard Women in Music event, and 5 that missed the mark
Billboard hosted its Women in Music event in Inglewood, California, on Wednesday.
Stars like Karol G and Ice Spice arrived in stunning outfits.
Other celebrities, like Katy Perry, missed the mark in confusing looks.
On Wednesday night, the annual Billboard Women in Music event was hosted in Inglewood, California.
Stars including Katy Perry and Ice Spice attended, and stunning fashion was all over the red carpet. But there were also a few looks that missed the mark.
Here's a look at the best and worst outfits celebrities wore.
Katy Perry hit the red carpet in a confusing frock.
She wore a red two-piece set from Ellie Misner, which included a strapless corset top with a peplum waist and a mid-rise skirt that hugged her thighs and flared above the knees.
Both pieces had lace-up closures in the back, which revealed her black G-string across her hips.
The outfit looked a bit messy and wrinkled, but Perry nailed her accessories. She donned vintage Vivienne Westwood heels and a diamond choker.
Karol G looked like she was dripping in diamonds.
She wore a tan Zuhair Murad design covered in silver and gold sequins from top to bottom.
Its backless top had a halter neckline and a plunging scoop in the middle, while its form-fitting skirt had a thin slit in the back that showed her platform heels.
She completed the sparkling look with glowing makeup and pink-tinted hair.
The dress Tracee Ellis Ross wore looked incomplete.
The multicolored garment was made from various swaths of fabric that draped across her body in ruched pieces.
But while its U-shaped neckline and muted colors worked great on Ross, its shapeless design didn't photograph well, and its skin-baring sections made it look like another piece was missing from the outfit.
She wore the dress with rounded heels, beaded earrings, and a statement wrist cuff.
Ice Spice perfected the little black dress.
Wiederhoeft custom-made her strapless minidress, which had a corset bodice, flared skirt, and satin bow adornments. It was classy but still fun and, ultimately, the perfect choice for Ice Spice.
Her accessories were equally smart. The rapper wore sheer black tights, pointed pumps, sheer gloves, and a diamond necklace.
Kylie Minogue's gown, on the other hand, was a bit too simple.
Minogue arrived at the event wearing a floor-length black gown crafted from a textured fabric. Its strapless design was supported by a second layer that poked across her shoulders via sparkling straps.
The musician looked chic, but it would have been fun to see her experiment with something a little more bold and out of the box.
After all, she did take home the night's icon honor, so a more iconic outfit would have been fitting.
Charli XCX took a fashion risk, and it paid off.
She wore a classic black bodysuit underneath a see-through gown. The latter garment had a train that glided across the carpet and silver triangle pieces across its bodice.
The outfit matched the musician's bold personality and made a statement on the red carpet.
Maren Morris' look didn't work.
Tory Burch designed her cream-colored outfit, which featured a top with thin straps, a keyhole cutout covered in lace, and an unclasped bodice.
The blouse was pretty, especially thanks to its satin panels, and would have paired perfectly with pants or a shorter skirt. But when styled with a long, semi-sheer piece instead, the outfit fell flat.
Morris wore the ensemble with sandal heels and a short bob haircut.
Bebe Rexha stunned in leather.
She attended the Billboard event in a strapless leather gown that was a bit daring. It had a corset bodice with a plunging V-shaped neckline and a form-fitting midi skirt.
Rexha wore the edgy dress with black tights, pointed pumps, and a wavy blonde hairstyle.
Victoria Monét looked glamorous, but her outfit missed the mark.
Roberto Cavalli custom-made the tan ensemble for the Grammy winner.
It included a snakeskin bralette, a semi-sheer sleeve piece, and a high-waisted skirt decorated with sequins in the shape of flowers and brass embellishments to create feathers.
The outfit's neutral colors looked great on Monét, and her glowing makeup shined. But the mix of so many materials and patterns ultimately clashed too harshly.
