4-Month-Old Baby Dies on Lake Havasu Trip with Family During Record-Breaking Heat: 'Beyond Devastated'

A 4-month-old infant died after she was exposed to a heat wave while on Lake Havasu in Arizona with her family on Friday, July 5, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office confirmed in a statement to PEOPLE.

The baby girl, Tanna Rae Wroblewski, fell ill and then lost consciousness around 5 p.m. on Friday while her family was out on a boat on Lake Havasu.

Before the Lake Havasu City Fire Department arrived at the scene, Tanna’s family performed CPR on her, according to a GoFundMe page created for the Wroblewski family. The first responders then transported Tanna to “Havasu Regional Medical Center, where they continued to work on her to get a pulse,” per the MCSO statement.

She was then airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

An investigation into Tanna’s death is ongoing. Additionally, the infant’s cause of death has yet to be released by the medical examiner.

Beginning on Thursday, July 4, the Lake Havasu region alerted the public that temperatures would be breaking records for the first time in nearly four decades. Temperatures in the area hit highs of 120°F starting Friday and are expected to continue reaching the 110s through the middle of July, per AccuWeather.

Numerous heat-related fatalities were reported over the holiday weekend as temperatures soared in many regions across the United States.

Tanna’s mother, Alyssa, posted a heartfelt tribute to her late daughter on Sunday, July 7, via Facebook.

“Tanna Rae, our real life angel became an angel in heaven 💔😭 . We are beyond devastated, heartbroken, there are just no words. July 5, 2024 our precious girl gave us her last smiles and we gave her our last kisses. Please visit us baby girl 🦋🪻,” she wrote.

“I will never understand why you had to leave us, you were just too perfect. I love you endlessly and I will look for you everywhere angel 🤍. Mama, Dada, and sister love you so so much.”

Additionally, according to Alyssa's Facebook profile, the family went to Havasu in April, May and June with the baby.

On Monday, July 8, the day that Tanna would have turned four months old, Alyssa shared a heartbreaking message, accompanied by the last photos of her daughter, via Facebook.

“These are the last photos I took of you before you left us💔😭. Your smile radiated joy. I always said she is my ANGEL she is my PEACE 🤍. I never thought there would be a day in my life without you. You made our family whole. You would’ve been 4 months old today 🦋,” wrote the mother.

She continued by revealing that explaining the loss to Tanna's older sister Ray “has been tough.”

“We don’t understand why you had to leave, how could she? She’s left out toys for you and made sure your favorites were all in the bassinet before bed the last couple nights. We are so heartbroken without you baby girl🪽, there are just no words. We love you and would give anything to have you here with us  🤍. We love you forever Tanny 🫶🏼.”

On Sunday, Devynn Crane created a GoFundMe page for the Wroblewski family and wrote in the description: “You would never expect the unthinkable to happen and have to plan a funeral for your sweet baby girl at the shy age of four months old."

Donations have nearly doubled the $25,000 goal at the time of publication on Tuesday, July 9.
