With the arrival of summer and the promise of sunny days ahead, many Nottinghamshire residents may be considering a trip to an outdoor swimming pool for some fun with family and friends. While Nottinghamshire may not have an abundance of such facilities, we are fortunate to be within easy reach of several fantastic outdoor pools.

Here are five outstanding outdoor pool facilities just a short drive from Nottinghamshire.

Hathersage

Nestled in Hope Valley in the Peak District, Hathersage boasts a 100ft X 33ft pool and offers a unique outdoor experience. Despite being a village with a population of less than 2,000, Hathersage attracts large numbers of visitors over the summer months.

The pool was constructed in 1936 by local businessman and philanthropist George Lawrence. It features water heated to 82F (28C), hot poolside showers, lawns and stunning views of Stanage Edge, Hathersage Church and the surrounding hills.

Ilkley Pool and Lido, West Yorkshire

At the southern tip of the Yorkshire Dales, Ilkley's 46-metre-wide, mushroom-shaped pool is a marvel from the 1930s. Offering stunning views over the moors, Ilkley Lido is a popular spot when the sun shines.

The site boasts a picnic area, tennis courts, putting green, and bowling green. During lido season, all customers must pay an admission fee at reception, whether swimming of spectating.

Alton Towers Water Park

More than just a swim, Alton Towers Water Park offers thrilling flumes, including a "water coaster" with panoramic park views. It caters to all, from adrenaline seekers to those preferring calmer waters, and features child-friendly zones with smaller slides and play areas.

On chilly days, you can even see steam rising from the outdoor pool. Parent and toddler admission starts at £23.

Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido

Formerly known as Hood Park Leisure Centre, Ashby Leisure Centre and Lido is perfect for a summer dip. With options ranging from family swim days to lounging and lessons, there's something for everyone.

Adult entry costs £5.40, while juniors pay £3.80. Under-fives entry costs £2.15.

Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool

Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool, a charitable incorporated organisation and registered charity, has been run by dedicated volunteers since 1990. It provides a plethora of choices for those keen to enjoy a dip under the sunny skies, and reopens on Saturday, May 25.

The facility hosts a variety of swimming options including general swim sessions, Aquafit classes, ladies' evening swims, and an "under 15s fun night". An all-day swim is priced at £6.50 for adults, £5 for children, and a mere £1 for the under 4s.

Families can make a splash together with a family ticket for up to four people costing just £18.
