Holby City spoilers follow.

Next week on Holby City, a shock return shakes the wards, while Davood Ghadami makes his debut as Eli, and he's not the only new face, either.

Here's a full collection of the six biggest moments coming up:

1. The Director of Improvement makes their mark

It's all change at Holby next week, as the new Director of Improvement arrives to bring the hospital out of special measures.

Digital Spy has been sworn to secrecy over the identity of the aforementioned director, but it's safe to say fans are in for an almighty surprise.

The DOI isn't alone, either, as they've brought in two new members of staff; Eli and Madge. Speaking of which...

2. Meet Eli!

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few months, you'll know that former EastEnders star Davood Ghadami has indeed joined the cast of Holby City.

Although Kush's bed is barely cold in Walford, Davood is back on our screens as Eli Ebrahimi – a talented, if slightly idiosyncratic surgeon. Eli has been described as passionate and exploding with energy, Eli puts work above everything.

Eli has connections to the Director of Improvement and is brought in as the new clinical lead. But can he help to turn the hospital around?

3. Meet Madge!

Eli isn't the only new face walking through the ever-revolving hospital doors next week, as fans will also be introduced to newcomer Madge Britton.

Madge, played by Clare Burt – former star of The Bill – joins as the new AAU nurse, and it's fair to say her approach differs slightly from Eli's.

Stern, straight-talking and determined, Madge will be taking no prisoners in her bid to get the hospital back on top, and quickly finds herself coming up against a distracted Ange.

4. Ange gets concerning news

Having discovered she was expecting twins in last night's episode, Ange is faced with more unexpected news next week.

After attending an important doctor's appointment with Josh, Ange is left more fearful than ever.

Despite this, Ange has to put aside the concerning news about her health in order to tackle Madge, who is less than impressed with the way AAU is being run.

5. Dom vows to save Carole

Still reeling from Carole's diagnosis, Dom throws himself into finding ways to treat her condition.

In doing so, however, Dom inadvertently neglects his mum, just when she needs him the most.

Desperate to make Dom see sense, Carole begs him to be her son, not her doctor, but will he listen?

6. Eli faces a challenge on his first day

Eli experiences a baptism of fire on his first day on the wards, thanks to his patient Mohammed.

When Mohammed rapidly starts to deteriorate, it looks as though Eli’s pioneering trial is over before it’s begun. What will he do?

Holby City airs these scenes on Tuesday, July 27 at 7.50pm on BBC One.
