6 TV spin-offs the fans are crying out for

Oh, fandom. We get it, we’re the same as you. It’s not enough to have one thing we love (say, Doctor Who) – we want more of it (Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, um, Class? Okay, maybe not Class).

What we’re saying is, we totally understand the desire to get all of the following shows on to a major broadcaster or streaming service as soon as possible. These six shows all have the potential to be our next favourite thing, and they're not even our wishful thinking. These are ideas that are already out there in the Blogosphere. (Is there still a Blogosphere?Let's say there is.)

1. Black Panther - Wakanda TV series

Yeah, this would basically be the best thing ever. In a world where everyone from Loki to Scarlet Witch (?) is getting their own show, a Black Panther spin-off set in the vibrant and exciting Wakanda, complete with its own complex rules, politics and potential for soap-opera style drama should have been the first thing on the list for Disney’s streaming service.

It could basically be Game Of Thrones, but more fun – and we’re ready to add our signatures to the fan petition that’s demanding it happens.

The Change post states, “Telling the backstory of Wakanda would be a game changer. How did Wakanda become the most technologically advanced country on Earth? From the technology to the artistry coupled with the rich African traditions, the fans demand more.

The Black Panther fan base would love to see a Wakanda Series on Netflix. This series would expand the depth of the Marvel universe and we feel Marvel/Disney would enjoy creating and adapting these stories as much as we would love watching them."

As for what it could be called, Wakanda Forever has a nice ring to it.

2. Supernatural - The Wayward Sisters

Speaking of petitions, fans were so disappointed that the planned Supernatural spinoff The Wayward Sisters got cancelled by CBS, they also launched a Change.org page. The drama kicked off after showrunner Andrew Dabb announced on Twitter that the series wouldn’t be going ahead.

Fans reacted quickly, launching a petition that – at the time of writing – has 83k signatures.

“As you may know, unfortunately the highly anticipated Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters wasn't picked up by The CW channel,” the petition page stated. “This show wasn't just a TV show to many people, it was inspiration.

"Six strong female characters of different ages, backgrounds and ethnicities, who would want that? [sic] These women are role models to so many people. This petition has been created to try and get networks to pick this show up, so please, if you want to see this show on our screens, sign this petition.”

3. It: Chapter One (2017) - The Losers Club series

A slightly more optimistic plea comes from the IT: Chapter One fandom (look, it’s a thing, okay?), who are desperate for a Stranger Things-style series following the young characters – named 'The Losers Club' – from the first IT movie.

While it makes a certain amount of sense – the young cast were brilliant, and we won’t be seeing much from them in the sequel, which will centre around the adult versions of the same characters – there are some logic gaps.

The whole reason the second film won’t feature the kids is that Pennywise hibernates for decades, which means the gang's adventures on the show won't feature him.

It would basically be more The Wonder Years than Stranger Things, unless the creators want to crowbar in unrelated supernatural shenanigans to the narrative.

Still, here’s the argument being made by fans, just in case you want to join in.

"The fandom of IT Movie (2017) | Stephen King is organising a petition for a TV SERIES (Spin-Off), we really love the characters/cast and we all need to see the characters of the movie in a Spin-off from the movie before IT :Chapter 2 happens.

A lot of bad things are going to happen with our favourite characters so we would be so happy if a spin-off from The Losers Club really happens and also if we could enjoy a little more from the characters in a tv-series! Thanks with all the love and care from IT(2017) FANDOM!"

It’s all very sweet, really.

4. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D - Marvel’s Most Wanted

The fans supporting Marvel’s Most Wanted series have a slightly more realistic goal, they just want to see the pilot (shot, but never aired) for their potential next favourite show.

The petition actually goes into fairly intricate detail, so we’ll let the fans speak for themselves here.

"The thought of getting an entire series based around these two hugely popular characters [Bobbi 'Mockingbird' Morse and Lance Hunter] was incredibly exciting.

A fair amount of details about the show were gradually released, including the basic premise of a conspiracy and man-hunt for the pair and the casting of Delroy Lindo and Fernanda Andrade as characters Dominic Fortune and Christina Santos respectively.

The pilot episode was filmed and wrapped production in March this year, with writers Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski (The X-Files, Angel, Lost) penning the script, which was praised by previous ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee.

"It was thus with great disappointment that fans around the world heard the announcement that after reviewing the pilot, ABC had yet again passed on the series, and that all the hard work put into the new spin-off had gone to waste. So it turned out that two of the most beloved characters from Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. had been written out of the show... for nothing.

"Therefore, this petition is specifically directed to new ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey and president of Disney/ABC Television Ben Sherwood to ask them to reconsider their repeated decision to pass on Marvel's "Most Wanted" and to, at the very least, decide to air the finished pilot episode on television – simply to see what the reaction from fans is.

To a greater or lesser extent, we all know how television companies work, but surely it should be down to the fans themselves to decide whether or not a new Marvel Television show is worth broadcasting or not? After all, we are the ones who will be viewing your channel to watch it."

We’re convinced.

5. Roseanne - Darlene

So, after Roseanne got kicked off of, well, Roseanne, fans immediately started thinking about how she could be replaced, and by far the most popular suggestion was a spin-off show centred around Roseanne’s daughter Darlene, played by Sara Gilbert.

Of course, ABC ended up going with ‘The Conners’ for their post-Roseanne redux, but the jury’s out on that one – critics received it warmly, but audiences did not, with viewers leaving the series in the millions as it went on. Maybe there's still hope for Darlene?

6. Peaky Blinders - Alfie Solomons

While it hasn’t got as far as an actual petition, fans are keen to see the story of Tom Hardy’s Jewish gangster Alfie continue, following the ending of Peaky Blinders.

There’s several separate Reddit posts exploring the idea, but one of the most popular, by user SimplyMe94, is also one of the most eloquent.

“I've been weighing this idea for a while now and I think it might be a real possibility; given Peaky Blinders' rising popularity, Tom Hardy's rising popularity as an actor and Alfie Solomons’ popularity as a character (he's arguably even more talked about by fans than Tommy Shelby himself). It would likely, just like PB, be six or less episodes too which would fit perfectly with Hardy's busy schedule.

I absolutely love the idea of a spin-off (or prequel, if Alfie dies this season) featuring Camden Town as the new Small Heath and exploring the dynamics of the Jewish mafia. Also being able to delve a lot more into Alfie's personal life and understand who he really is as a person.”

With plenty of support on the thread, we’d like to see SimplyMe94 get the opportunity to pitch his or her idea to the BBC. He or she will probably have to use their real name on their BBC pass, though. Unless they’re actually Tom Hardy in disguise, in which case they already have one.
