62-Year-Old Woman Injured After Man on Horseback Rides Into Stop Adani Protest

A 62-year-old woman was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital after suffering suspected spinal injuries, according to ABC Australia, after a man rode a horse into a gathering of Stop Adani protesters in Clermont, Queensland, on Sunday, April 28.

“Investigations to date have revealed that as the man was attempting to exit the ring, a woman and a group of others attempted to close a gate which the horse has struck,” said Queensland Police in a statement. “The gate then struck a 62-year-old New South Wales woman and the rider then rode into bushland at the back of the showgrounds.”

Police said a man was taken into custody following the incident. Credit: Stop Adani/Matthew Newton via Storyful
