‘That ’70s Show’ Alum Danny Masterson Sentenced to 30 Years to Life for Rape

“That ’70s Show” alum Danny Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for multiple charges of rape following a series of accusations against the actor.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo presided over the case, telling Masterson that he is “not the victim here, your actions 20 years ago were criminal” (via Deadline). Masterson was given the maximum sentence allocated under the law and will register as a sex offender upon parole or release from jail.

Masterson was previously found guilty on two of three counts of sexual assault with the respective rapes occurring decades ago. Deputy D.A. Reinhold Mueller confirmed that Masterson was found guilty of “forceable rape” on “multiple occasions,” with a series of Jane Doe plaintiffs testifying against the actor.

Former “The Ranch” star was first arrested in 2020 on allegations of assault happening in his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003. A 2022 trial had a deadlocked jury; the verdict Thursday is the result of a retrial sentencing.

Masterson has claimed that all the alleged sexual encounters were consensual. A prominent Church of Scientology member, Masterson has received support from the Church, which has been accused of harassing and stalking to intimidate the Jane Doe plaintiffs who were also previous Scientologists.

“I didn’t choose to be born into Scientology, just as I didn’t choose to be raped by Danny Masterson,” plaintiff Jane Doe #1 told the court, alleging that Masterson “drugged and raped” her.

Another plaintiff recalled how she was “brainwashed” by both the Church and Masterson, with the Church protecting the actor as a “prized member.”

The Jane Does’ attorney Alison Anderson from Boies Schiller Flexner LLP told the court that Jane Doe #2 and #3 have “have displayed tremendous strength and bravery, by coming forward to law enforcement and participating directly in two grueling criminal trials” against Masterson.

“Despite persistent harassment, obstruction and intimidation, these courageous women helped hold a ruthless sexual predator accountable today, and they are not stopping there,” Anderson said. “They are eager to soon tell the fuller story of how Scientology and its enablers tried desperately to keep them from coming forward.”
