72-hour 'danger to life' warnings as Met Office forecasts end of heatwave
Brits are being warned of a 'danger to life' as thunderstorms are forecasted to cause weather chaos over the next three days. The Met Office has issued warnings as the weekend's sunny weather is set to be replaced by rain.
Saturday saw temperatures soar to 24C in some areas, with many people taking advantage of the warm weather. However, not all parts of the country have been so fortunate today, with large areas under a yellow warning for thunderstorms.
The Met Office initially issued these warnings yesterday, but they have since been updated, with some regions in south and southwest England and Wales no longer included. The warnings will remain in place tomorrow and extend to Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

The warning for today states: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out in the south and west of this area early Sunday afternoon, moving steadily north whilst growing into larger areas of heavy rain before clearing through the late evening."
It adds: "Some intense downpours are possible in a few places, giving up to 30 mm in less than an hour and perhaps 50 mm over 2 to 3 hours leading to surface water flooding. Large hail, frequent lightning strikes and possibly strong wind gusts will be additional localised hazards."
"Consider if your location is at risk of flash flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. Prepare to protect your property and people from injury. Before gusty winds arrive, check to ensure moveable objects or temporary structures are well secured. Items include; bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences. Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary."
Tomorrow's yellow warnings include thunderstorms in Scotland, as well as rain in Northern Ireland and parts of England.
The Met Office forecast added: "Thundery showers will ease across all but parts of eastern Scotland overnight. Otherwise, there will be some clear spells with areas of low cloud and some fog patches. Rain arriving across the far southwest by dawn. A mild night everywhere. On Monday, Most northern and eastern areas will be fine with some warm sunshine. A few showers are expected across Scotland. Meanwhile, persistent rain feeding across Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England."
