76-Year-Old Man Attempts World Record by Balancing 350 Wineglasses on Head

A determined 76-year-old from Derbyshire, UK, attempted to beat the world record for most wineglasses balanced on a person’s head with an impressive stack of 350.

A small crowd gathered at Trowell Garden Centre in Nottingham on December 4 to watch John Evans’s record attempt.

Evans already holds several Guinness World Records for balancing items on his head, including pint glasses, balls, and even bricks.

Evans told Guavo.Media: “I’m a family man now, and at 76 years old I want to prove to everyone that it doesn’t matter how old you are. Anything is possible if you try and put in some dedication. You can do anything if you truly believe in yourself. I am living proof of that!”

According to local media, Evans walked 10 feet while balancing 350 wineglasses on his head. The record attempt lasted 35 seconds and the glasses were returned safely afterwards.

Evans was spurred on to the attempt after seeing 62-year-old Aristotelis Valaoritis successfully balance 319 glasses on his head in October this year – a record that ended with Valaoritis smashing all the glasses.

“I am the World’s Best Head Balancer, and there’s no beating me! Ain’t no challenger able to do it better than I can,” Evans told Guavo.Media.

According to Evans, he developed his knack by carrying bricks on a board on top of his hat when he climbed ladders as a builder’s laborer.

JOHN EVANS: My name is John Evans And I'm the best head balancer in the world. I'm here today to break a Guinness World Record. I'm going to break this record today, because there's a guy in Cyprus who has done something like balancing empty wine glasses on his head.

I first started doing this head balancing some 35 years ago, or even longer before that. I used to work on a building site, and I used to carry bricks up ladders for bricklayers. And I was very, very good at it. I got very good doing this. Here I am today breaking this existing world record that somebody else has claimed.

- One, two, three.

JOHN EVANS: There's 49 glasses on each tray. So there's seven trays there, which makes 343 glasses. And then there's an extra seven glasses on top of a tray, which makes 350 glasses.

You're never too old. If you try and try-- nothing is impossible for you to try. And that's what I try and inspire, that age is no barrier. If you're willing to do it, willing to try, and willing to have a little dedication, you will do it.

I've been balancing things out of my head for around about 35 years professionally. If you ask Google, "who is the best ad balancer in the world," you don't have to mention no names. It comes up with "John Evans is the best head balancer in the world."

[CHEERING]

At 76 years old, I'm the best at something. And I can't be beaten. Happy Christmas.

- It was amazing seeing John after all these years. It was in the early '90s that at St. John Alton School, they actually put me on his head sat on a chair. And to see him now doing the glasses is good. But I'm not volunteering to go back on the chair.
