UPDATE: 77-year-old Millmont woman killed in Lewisburg pedestrian accident

Dec. 15—LEWISBURG — A 77-year-old Millmont woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Market Street in downtown Lewisburg on Friday morning.

Union County Coroner Dominic Adamo identified the woman as Mabel S. Shively, 77, who died due to injuries suffered in a pedestrian and tractor-trailer accident in the 300 hundred block of Market Street in Borough of Lewisburg. The accident occurred at about 11 a.m. Friday.

A portion of Market Street, which is also State Route 45, was closed after the crash and reopened just before 3 p.m. Friday. The road between Third and Fourth streets was blocked off by emergency responders and the sidewalks were marked off with police tape.

A Staiman Recycling Corporation truck was stopped on Market Street in the direction of the Lewisburg River Bridge. A white sheet was hung up on the truck to block the view of the scene.

The responding units included William Cameron Engine Company fire and ambulance and Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department.

Lewisburg Mayor Kendy Alvarez released a statement on behalf of the borough.

"On behalf of the Lewisburg Borough, I offer condolences to Ms. Mabel Shively's family for their loss," said Alvarez. "This tragic accident is a painful reminder of how precious life is."

She said counseling services are available to community members affected by the incident.

"We've coordinated with Evan Cares to provide grief counseling for community members, which will be facilitated through Lewisburg Downtown Partnership and CommUnity Zone," said Alvarez.
