The 9 Best Moments from the 2022 Emmy Awards
We came for the fash-un. We stayed for the winners. And with so many stacked categories, we had high expectations for the 74th annual Emmy Awards. Lucky for us, it didn’t disappoint. From Kenan Thompson's spectacular opening number to Sheryl Lee Ralph's moving acceptance speech, here are the nine best moments of the night.
1. The Musical Opening Number
We definitely didn't expect the ceremony's opening number to include an appearance from The Brady Bunch cast, a Friends dance routine, a shoutout to Living Single and Kenan Thompson dressed up as Daenerys Targaryen. The opening also included a brief nod to Stranger Things and the classic Law & Order.

2. Sheryl Lee Ralph's Incredible Acceptance Speech
Everything about this moment was fantastic, from Ralph's stunned reaction to her win to her phenomenal singing and rousing speech. Even better, the actress made history as the second Black woman to win an Emmy for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
After singing a few lines of Dianne Reeves’s “Endangered Species,” she said, "To anyone who has ever, ever had a dream and thought your dream wasn’t, wouldn’t, couldn’t come true, I am here to tell you that this is what believing looks like."

3. Jennifer Coolidge's Impromptu Dance Party
The iconic actress had the entire audience laughing from the moment she began her acceptance speech, but the real highlight came when the cut-off music began to play. Instead of abruptly ending her remarks, she started to dance to the music with a smile. Talk about an iconic moment.

4. When the Only Murders Stars Presented for Best Variety or Comedy Show
The trio were easily among the best presenters of the night. In fact, they were so funny that fans have started petitioning to have the cast host next year's Emmy Awards. One fan tweeted, "If these three don’t host next year’s Emmys, I will riot."

5. Lizzo's Powerful Acceptance Speech
Lizzo is officially one step closer to reaching EGOT status with her Emmy win for Prime Video's Watch Out For The Big Grrrls. In her moving speech, she said, "When I was a little girl, all I wanted was to see someone like me in the media. Someone Black like me, fat like me, beautiful like me. If I could tell little Lizzo something, it'd be, 'You're gonna see that person, but b*tch it's gonna have to be you.'"
