A1(M) crash police statement as man rushed to hospital

A man has been rushed to hospital with leg injuries following a crash on the A1(M) near Doncaster earlier today.

South Yorkshire Police said they were called to the A1M, between J35 (M18) and J36 (Doncaster), shortly after 10.30am on Sunday (May 5), following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

One man was found at the scene with leg injuries and was rushed to hospital.

The road was closed for over an hour while emergency services, including Yorkshire air ambulance, attended the scene, leaving drivers stuck in tailbacks up to three miles long.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "We were called to the A1(M) between junctions 35 and 36, at 10.36am today (5 May) to reports that a vehicle and pedestrian had been in a collision on the hard shoulder.

"One man was found to have sustained leg injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital. The road was closed by National Highways and re-opened at around 12.30pm."
