A party game gets, ahem, out of hand in the latest horror film from A24, Talk To Me.

The film, which blew audiences away when it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, co-stars trans actor Zoe Tarakes as one of the teens who learn a terrifying lesson when they treat engaging with the supernatural like a party game.

Tarakes, who previously starred in Nine Perfect Strangers, is about to break out in their role in the upcoming Marvel series Ironheart.

According to the official synopsis, “When a group of friends discovers how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.”

The group has someone laying hands — literally — on the embalmed and preserved hand. The appendage allows the revelers to connect with the spirit world when they invite it to speak with them by saying “talk to me,” even allowing it to enter their bodies.

There are rules meant to protect them, like strictly limiting the amount of time they communicate with the dead, but when one of them realizes she connects with a lost loved one, those rules begin being broken.

What begins as seemingly — albeit terrifying — fun takes a sinister turn as it becomes clear the spirits they’re playing with aren’t playing around, and might just want to stay inside the living.

Talk to Me arrives in theaters on July 28. Watch the trailer below.
