Aberdeen's Connor Barron is reportedly on the verge of signing for Rangers, despite interest from clubs across Europe.

The Daily Record reported last week that the Light Blues had intensified their efforts to sign Barron on a free transfer. The Dons later confirmed that the 21 year old would be leaving Pittodrie at the end of his contract.

Rangers made an improved offer, with Bologna, Hellas Verona, Plymouth, Stoke, Cardiff and Swansea all vying for a deal. It now seems that Barron will join Aberdeen's Scottish Premiership rivals this summer.

The Rangers Review reports that the Ibrox side are "poised" to complete the signing after "winning the race" for the free agent this summer. Philippe Clement is said to be "eager" to include the midfielder in his squad overhaul.

It is claimed that Rangers have "seen off" competition from England and Italy, with Clement set to make his fourth signing of the summer, reports the Daily Record.

A deal is expected to be finalised before Rangers return to pre-season training on Monday. If Barron were to move outside Scotland, the Dons would have been due around £525,000 in training compensation.

However, a switch to the Light Blues means the Scottish clubs will have to agree on compensation or face a tribunal stepping in to determine a fee.

Barron is not expected to be the last new addition at Ibrox. Liam Kelly is anticipated to join after Euro 2024, while discussions continue over Bayern Munich forward Yusuf Kadabayi.
