Aberdeen vs Celtic Scottish Cup semi-final score predictions as Football Scotland writers have their say

Aberdeen and Celtic go head to head this weekend in the first of the two Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden.

Peter Leven will be desperate to take his side into the showpiece finale later this season after steadying the ship since Neil Warnock exited from his 33-day interim role. It's not been an easy ride for the caretaker coach but there's something for Leven to look forward to as part of Jimmy Thelin's backroom staff in the summer. That will see him hoping to ensure the players put on a show and leave it all out on the pitch and set them up successfully for their new regime next term.

The Hoops, meanwhile, are on the road towards a domestic double with a lead in the Premiership over Rangers not being hindered by any more games in hand. Brendan Rodgers will demand a victory at the national stadium to keep the squad on their toes and building momentum for the run-in.

Football Scotland's writers have made our picks for the winner this weekend.

Blair Meikle

Surely there is only one winner here. Aberdeen have had an abysmal season and it would be the story of all stories if they were to turn over Celtic to reach the final.

Peter Leven may have steadied the ship a little but they're not out of the woods yet in the league and victory over the Hoops in a semi-final must be beyond them. On top of their poor form, they're without the suspended Graeme Shinnie which will affect their ability to disrupt Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers' side are in more of a groove than earlier this season and should be able to get through this one without much trouble. With Kyogo back on form and Adam Idah there now too, they have a threat in attack.

And Reo Hatate being back has given them a different dimension in midfield too. It all points to a comfortable Celtic win.

Prediction: Aberdeen 0-2 Celtic

Ryan McDonald

It's Aberdeen's last throw of the dice as they attempt to rescue an atrocious campaign. And while Peter Leven has already earned a result against Celtic this season, it would require a major upset to see the Dons book their place in next month's Scottish Cup Final. The absence of suspended skipper Graeme Shinnie is a major blow and they'll miss his experience and leadership in the middle of the park.

By contrast, aside from Daizen Maeda, the Hoops have a healthy squad at their disposal and the 30,000-plus Hoops fans inside Hampden will expect to see a routine victory. History tells you that anything can happen in cup games but Brendan Rodgers' flawless record of nine wins from nine at the national stadium means the chances of Aberdeen saving their season are highly unlikely.

Prediction: Aberdeen 0-3 Celtic

Mark Hendry

If the notion took me to have a flutter on this one I'd be mad to bet against Celtic. Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers and even Callum McGregor are all back while they've found their form at the right moment this season. They're winning games and doing so relatively comfortably these days which couldn't be said earlier this term.

The Dons on the other hand have had a nightmare of a season and an interim boss in Peter Leven would need a miracle to see off the champions as they look to do what they do which is win big games at big moments.

I believe Celtic will win convincingly but - simply for the fact that Dons' stars have a new manager in Jimmy Thelin no doubt watching on telly - I can see them giving it a go early on before being swept aside.

Prediction: Aberdeen 1-4 Celtic
