Abingdon and Witney College will launch new courses in engineering, computing, and construction management this September.

The college is set to roll out seven Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs), which will afford students and apprentices the chance to gain industry-relevant skills and knowledge and aim to put them at the forefront of their respective careers.

The courses can be taken either as standalone qualifications or as a part of a comprehensive higher apprenticeship course.

The HTQ quality mark, given to a select number of updated and revamped traditional Higher National Certificate (HNC) courses, brings to these courses the advantage of the respected HNC qualification.

The college says they have designed these HTQs in tandem with leading industry experts to meet the evolving demands of the job market and to reflect the latest industry practices.

The new HTQs and higher apprenticeships offer key learning avenues such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and mechatronics under engineering.

Under computing, students can specialise in cybersecurity, software development, and network engineering.

Lastly, the construction management course focuses on site supervision skills and construction operations.

The college has been graded as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted for its apprenticeship programmes.

Wednesday, July 17 will see the college host an event for prospective students and employers to discuss and understand the benefits these courses offer.

Students will be able to network with industry leaders and find out more about how these qualifications could benefit them in the future.

Principal Jacqui Canton said: "We are excited to offer these dynamic HTQs and higher apprenticeship programmes, which are tailored to meet the needs of modern industries.

"By combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills, our students and apprentices will be well-equipped to excel in their careers and contribute to the economic development of Oxfordshire and beyond."

The introduction of these HTQ courses points to the strategic approach of Abingdon & Witney College towards innovation and industry engagement.

The courses are tailored to bridge the skills gap and improve employability, ensuring their graduates are ready to handle the trials of the future workplace.

The July 17 event is an opportunity for attendees to find out how Abingdon & Witney College looks to shape the future of technical education.

Those who attend will be able to learn more about the curriculum on offer, meet their prospective course leaders and discuss their career prospects.
