'Right Above Me': Deadly Tornado Strikes Northeast Kansas

An EF-3 tornado has killed at least one and injured three others in Westmoreland, Kansas, on Tuesday, April 30, local authorities said.

Twenty-two homes and four outbuildings in north Westmoreland were destroyed, along with a number of RVs.

Video recorded by Buster Schmitz shows debris flying through the air as a large funnel cloud forms.

Schmitz told Storyful he was at a convenience store grabbing a soda for his drive home when the storm hit.

“I heard the sirens going off and knew it had to be a tornado, so I looked up and it was right above me,” Schmitz said.

“I hopped in the truck, drove a half a block to get a better look, pulled over and started videoing,” he added. Credit: Buster Schmitz via Storyful
