Hull City chairman Acun Ilicali has come under the spotlight today after Liam Rosenior parted ways with the club following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

The defeat at Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season, coupled with West Brom's win over Preston, meant the Tigers finished seventh in the Championship table.

Having been sixth at Christmas, a run of three wins in the final 13 games saw City slip out of the play-offs. Victories over Queens Park Rangers and Coventry had provided a glimmer of hope but they fell short on the final day.

Rosenior's departure was confirmed by the club on Tuesday with Ilicali revealing the difficulty behind the decision. "This has been the most difficult decision I have had to make as chairman of this wonderful football club," he said.

"No matter how trying the circumstance, I have to remove personal sentiment from these moments and ensure the long-term vision of the club is at the centre of my thinking.

“Since Liam’s arrival, we have enjoyed an open working relationship and progress has undoubtedly been made over the course of his tenure. He will always be a part of this family and I thank him for all his work.

“However, it has become evident that our visions for the future are not aligned and I feel that now is the time to make a change. Our philosophy is clear, we will continue to drive this club forward, and whilst doing so I will continue to be open and transparent with our fans."

Illicai will now search for his third permanent head coach since completing his takeover of Hull in January 2022. Rosenior's departure has sent shockwaves after the 39-year-old was nominated for Championship Manager of the Season.

With that in mind, HullLive has taken a look at the Hull chairman and how he came about purchasing the club over two years ago.
