Burglar caught on Ring doorbell tries to pin blame on twin brother

A burglar who was caught on a Ring doorbell sneaking into a home tried to lay the blame on his identical twin brother.

Adam Reynolds, 34, was caught on camera as he entered an unlocked porch in Hartshill Road, Stoke, at around 4.30am on 10 October last year.

The owner of the home had bought a movement-tracking camera when she noticed someone had entered the property a few days earlier.

The footage showed Reynolds attempting to remove the doorbell as he entered the house.

Officers recognised Reynolds, who has 62 convictions for 148 offences including two previous burglaries, and arrested him but when confronted with the evidence he told them it was his twin brother, Corrie Reynolds.

Adam Reynolds – whose twin also has a lengthy criminal record – went on to plead guilty to burglary.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard Adam Reynolds crept inside the porch after being released on licence.

Richard McConaghy, mitigating, said: "Access was gained by the porch and no attempt was made to force the door. Identification was made with the doorbell.

"The items taken were not of any significant value. When asked to explain his behaviour he said it was for financial gain.

“He was in the grips of a drug addiction at the time. He was plainly suffering from his mental health.”

McConaghy said that Adam Reynolds was “apologetic for what he has done” but recorder Matthew Boyle told him: "You have an appalling record. Your Class A drug use had led you to develop psychotic episodes. You were behaving abnormally…

“The offence is aggravated by your previous convictions.”

He was sentenced to 14 months in jail.
