CHERRIES midfielder Tyler Adams made his third consecutive Copa America start on Monday night, but it would prove to be his last of this summer's competition.

The United States suffered Copa America elimination after losing 1-0 to Group C winners Uruguay at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Adams went the entire 90 minutes, his first full performance for club or country since March 30 against Everton in the Premier League.

Mathias Olivera's 66th-minute finish off a rebound proved to be the winning goal for Uruguay. Ronald Araujo's header from a free-kick was denied by USA goalkeeper Matt Turner, but Olivera was in the right spot to finish off the rebound.

VAR checked for a potential offside on Olivera, but confirmed a good goal for the South American side.

The Americans struggled to create much in the final third, forcing goalkeeper Sergio Rochet into only two saves.

Adams was one of the better performers for the USMNT despite the loss, winning four individual duels, making six defensive recoveries, and drawing one foul.

Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay progress through alongside Panama, who finished three points ahead of Gregg Berhalter's side, with Bolivia failing to get off the mark.

The United States now enter a period of uncertainty following an early exit from the competition.
