Aerial View Shows Smoke from Chemical Plant Explosion Blow Across Texas

Officials ordered residents in Shepherd, Texas, to shelter in place on November 8 as a fire raged at a nearby chemical plant after an explosion.

According to officials, the fire was burning at Sound Resource Solutions in Shepherd in the state’s east.

The San Jacinto County Office of Emergency Management asked residents within a one-mile radius of the plant to shelter in place. The sheriff’s office said the plume of smoke was headed for the Livingston area and was visible on a National Weather Service satellite.

A representative of Sound Resource Solutions confirmed to local media that all employees were accounted for and said one was injured and taken to hospital.

The fire hotspot appeared on satellite owned by the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere over southeast Texas, as seen in this footage. Credit: CSU/CIRA & NOAA via Storyful
